THEY MET IN THE WOODS

In 1874 Tres-Palacios Lodge No. 411 was established by the founder of Blessing, Texas Jonathan Edwards Pierce. On 29 January 1874 The Grand Lodge of Texas granted a Charter under Dispensation to the newly formed Tres-Palacios Lodge and on 8 June 1874 Tres-Palacios Lodge was granted full charter and received the number 411.

“At the hall over the Baptist Church on Tres-Palacios Creek in Matagorda County, Texas, January 29 A. D. 1874, A. L. 5874. At a meeting of Ancient Free, and Accepted Masons, held at the above named place and at said time, there were present the following named Brethren; Right Worshipful J. M. Bickford: District Deputy Grand Master; J. W. Allen, Lavaca Lodge No. 36; W. Davidson, Morton Lodge No. 72; J. E. Pierce, John Moore, Thomas Kuykendall, and Robert Partain, Texana Lodge No. 123 and G. S. Hamilton, Oran Lodge No. 232 Georgia.”

At present time we still meet in the same old building that was erected on that creek one hundred and thirty four years ago. The building still bears the original old style G, Square, and Compasses; they are configured with the square as large as the compasses, at the peak of the roof.
